July 20, 2006 Presidential Nomination Announced President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Dr. Todd I. Stewart, Major General, U.S.A.F (Ret.), to be a Member of the National Security Education Board, for a four year term. Dr. Stewart directs the Program for International and Homeland Security at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. This is a university-wide, strategic initiative to promote and support academic research, education and service related to all aspects of national security. Dr. Stewart is also the Executive Director of the National Academic Consortium for Homeland Security. Prior to accepting his current appointment with Ohio State, Dr. Stewart served for 34 years with the United States Air Force. He holds a BS-Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University; a MS-Engineering Administration from Southern Methodist University; and a Ph.D.-Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. National Security Education Act In December 1991, the President signed the National Security Education Act. The Act provides for the establishment of the National Security Education Program, the National Security Education Board and the National Security Education Trust Fund to carry out the following mission:
National Security Education Board The National Security Education Board is made up of six senior nonfederal officials appointed by the president, and seven senior federal officials, most of cabinet rank, including the Secretaries of Defense (chair), State, Education, Commerce, and Energy. The board determines the criteria for scholarship awards to students made by the National Security Education Program and recommends critical areas that the program should address.
