Feb. 28, 2007 Benzakein Receives Top Award in AeronauticsDr. Meyer (Mike) Benzakein, chair of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, has been named the recipient of the 2007 Reed Aeronautics Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Benzakein joined Ohio State in 2004 when he was named the Wright Brothers Institute Professor in Aerospace Engineering. Formerly the General Manager of Advanced Technology and Military Engineering at GE Aircraft Engines, he is recognized throughout the aviation industry as a leader in the field of aeropropulsion engineering, including working closely with NASA and the U.S. Air Force. Benzakein is a member of the National Academy of Engineering; a Fellow in the Royal Aeronautical Society, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; recipient of the GE Chairman’s Leadership Award for Technology; and a member of the Ohio Aerospace and Defense Council. The Reed Aeronautics Award is the highest award an individual can receive for achievements in the field of aeronautical science and engineering. The award is named after Dr. Sylvanus A. Reed, the aeronautical engineer, designer, and founding member of the Institute of Aeronautical Sciences in 1932.
